Musication Part 4: The Affairs

Submitted by Olivia Hambrett on October 7, 2009 – 12:02 amNo Comment

You’ve met Ziggie Flax, Ranger Spacey and Sierra Montana. With two more sleeps until Musication unfolds beneath the dazzling lights of The Gaelic Theatre, it’s time to meet the fourth band in the line up, The Affairs. To regular readers of Trespass, these guys don’t really need any introduction, so I’ll keep this short and sweet. They buzz around on stage with an almost unparalleled energy, their music is unbelievably catchy and lead singer Michael Votano has a special brand of between-songs patter you won’t forget in a hurry. In short, this band is one to watch, and following a very successful single launch at The Supper Club in May this year and a series of fantastic gigs, they’re ready to rock and roll this Friday night, October 9th. You don’t want to miss out.

We are… actually really nice people once you get to know us.

We hail from … Sexy Sunny Sensational Sydney (Good alliteration Mike … thanks Romeo)

You can liken our sound to … MICHAEL BOLTON & DARRYL BRAITHWAITE!!!

Our influences are … Michael Bolton, Darryl Braithwaite, Meatloaf, George Michael, Rick Astley & MICHAEL BOLTON!!!

Our drink of choice … beer & bourbon … NAH not even close to being that manly. Chambord Limon Lime, Mojitos. Most manly, but sweet cocktails will do just fine.

Musication means … I am pretty sure you made this word up. But coincidently that is also the name of this wicked gig we are playing on October 9th … you should so totally be there.

Sydney’s music scene is … in desperate need of a revamp. Bands don’t support other bands, people don’t go out to see live music. I won’t lie compared to Melbourne & Brisbane we Sydneysiders just aren’t putting up much of a fight. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Sydney but our live music support is pathetic especially considering the vast array of amazing talent. Wow that answer was so serious how about a joke? Why did the little girl cross the playground? To get to the other slide.

Get behind it because … it is not everyday we have so many amazing Sydney acts up on one stage doing their thing. This gig & all Sydney live gigs need your support to survive. Here is a little challenge for you … see if you can attend one live original band gig every week for a year … now that sounds like fun.

Olivia Hambrett is is a Sydney based writer, student and the Editor of Trespass. She has a weakness for the Scandinavian pop scene, doughnuts, and escapism (among many other things). She routinely pours cups of tea and forgets about them, buys international glossy magazines even though they highlight her fashion, fiscal and physical shortcomings and has lost count of how many perfumes she owns. This doesn't stop her from buying more. One day, she will write a bestselling book, turn it into an award winning screenplay, and retire to a villa (or yacht, she's not fussy) in the Mediterranean, to live out the rest of her days in sundrenched peace. If you lose her, look under a pile of books, scrap paper and empty tea cups, or check her bank statements for any recent, rash plane-ticket purchases. Don't try and call her, she's probably lost her phone.
