Beauty: Rom Com Maidens
Okay. So I did a little call out on Twitter yesterday, asking people for suggestions as I was trying to come up with a list of Romantic Comedies. The reason for this list is so I can decipher and explain to you, my little beauties, how to achieve the ‘look’ of a RomCom maiden. I am ever-so-grateful to everyone who gave me suggestions, but to be honest, I am (not by lack of trying) not very well studied in the area of RomCom’s. But, fear not, I do have one that I can watch over and over again. And die laughing every time. And I figured, it’s Comedy Week, so rather than focus solely on the beauty, I’ll reminisce my forever favourite Romantic Comedy, in all it’s glory and hilariousness, and of course chuck in some beauty tips (because that’s what I do best, right?)
So, what is this film that gets me going every time? I’ll give you a clue. It stars a man who many find repulsive, and many find for-some-reason-no one-can-explain-why-so-damn-extremely-sexy. I am of the latter category. It might be his British accent. It might be his leather pants (on anyone else I’d vomit in my mouth, but he pulls them off rather well). But it’s probably just him. Do you know who I’m talking about? Russell Brand. (So after re-reading that paragraph I realise how much I just wrote about Russell Brand and my absolutely-not-secret love for him.) And the movie? Oh right, that’s what we’re here for. The RomCom I just can’t get enough of is Forgetting Sarah Marshall. I Love It. With a capital L. So much, that the first time I watched it, I watched it again the very next morning. As soon as I woke up.
So let’s get to the beauty bit. Okay. Wait, wait – a little bit more Russell first. (insert picture)
Alright. Down to business. Beauty, beauty, beauty. Focus Romy.
Sarah
While searching for images to use for this piece, the only ones I found of our heroine were of her in a bikini. This could be due to the fact that the film is set in Hawaii. In saying this, her makeup is kept pretty simple.
Base: tinted moisturiser or a light foundation, followed with a splash of bronzer and a swish of blush.
Eyes: a nude eyeshadow, covering the entire lid up to the brow bone. Brown eyeliner on top and bottom of eye. Lashings of black mascara, or brown if you want a more subtle look.
Lips: a clear or slightly tinted gloss.
Rachel
The other main female in the film, Rachel (better known as Jackie from That 70’s Show) also wears quite minimal makeup. Her features are darker though, so if you have colouring more like her (as I do) follow these steps.
Base: tinted moisturiser, or if you can get away with it and don’t feel too naked, just bronzer (applied in the 3/E method) A swish of blush on the apples of your cheeks, and across your chin and forehead very lightly too.
Eyes: use your bronzer as eyeshadow, but keep it contained to your eyelid only. Use a black eyeliner on your upper eyelid, right in close to your eyelashes. Use a navy eyeliner in the inner rim of your eyes (underneath). Lots of volumising black mascara. Also a dash of blue mascara on the tips of your top eyelashes if you really want your eyes to pop.
Lips: clear gloss or balm.
