Dear Trespassers,
This week we claim another New Zealander as our own – she is that good. We rejoice in the super talented and endearing duo Lovers Electric who are finally getting their props in the music industry. That is an album we highly recommend you add to the collection. We share our thoughts on the latest album from Iceland native, Emiliana Torrini and the most recent release by T.I and Justin Timberlake. As of next week, the spotlight section will be back up and running – so if there is a particular artist or group who you would love to know the inner workings of their minds, email us.
Happy Trespassing

CD on high rotation – Anika Moa – In Swings the Tide
OK, look, she is a New Zealander…but like we do with all fantastic talent from our little cousin (or should I say ‘cuzz’) country…we claim them as our own. Her third album, In Swings the Tide is quietly carving out its musical mark. Moa produced this blend of pop-folk album herself in her Auckland home, and it’s her strongest release yet.. It only takes one listen to know that Moa has poured a lot of her soul and personal experiences into In Swings the Tide. The album contains some of the saddest, richest and romantic songs of her career. Her ability to tug at the heart strings through her lyrics is unequivocal and often unexpected. Moa combines her pure and beautiful vocals with impeccable harmonies, sweeping strings, floating woodwind, stirring piano ballads – even the accordion can be heard on the album at one stage. Stand out tracks include:
- Dreams in my head
- The blind woman
- Standing in this fire
- Thinking of tomorrow
Single on high rotation – Lover’s Electric – Could This Be
Trespass have been fans of this dynamic duo for quite some time now and are elated that they are finally getting the radio time they truly deserve. Love Could This Be because it is oh so catchy, oh so summery and oh so uplifting tune.
International CD on high rotation – Emiliana Torrini – Me and Armini
In a music scene that is spilling over with female singers with similar hushed vocals layered over quirky lo-fi beats – think Lilly Allen – Emiliana Torrini is one of the stand outs. She has the ‘tude of Bjork, the sweetness of Mozella and the warmth of Norah Jones. The half-Icelandic, half-Italian
songstress shines with her latest offering, Me and Armini. It is her seventh studio album and her third international release. She is a veteran of the music industry, has written two number one hits for Kylie Minogue and leant her whispery vocals to The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. Her new album has been hailed as one of her best that will further launch her onto the world’s stage. It is one of her most accessible albums. There are tracks for all music lovers; it runs an impressive, unpredictable gamut of musical styles. Her title track is heavily influenced by reggae but there are strains of 90′s grungy rock on the highly addictive track Gun, whilst tracks like Birds remain beautifully accoustic. If you are a pop fan, you will enjoy tracks like Jungle Drum and Big Jump; haunting breathy tracks like Bleeder showcase Torrini’s lyrical talent; and tracks like Beggar’s Prayer have a distinct folk influence. Tracks to listen out for:
- Fireheads
- Gun
- Big Jump
- Bleeder
International Single on high rotation – TI and Justin Timberlake – Dead and Gone
Oh this song has been blasting from my car for a while now. Still haven’t grown sick of it. If you are a TI fan, a JT fan, a fan of hip hop – you will love this one. It has a solid beat and infectious chorus provided by Justin.
