Don’t Miss: Opera, Cabaret & The Sisterhood

Go to the Opera …

Pacific Opera, the country’s leading Young Artists’ opera company is putting on La Sonnambula (The Sleepwalker) kicking off July 31st. La sonnambula by Bellini is a sleepwalking love story with an abundance of gorgeous bel canto melody. It’s a wonderful opera, combining youthful love, jealousy, anger and a happy ending all against the backdrop of the most beautiful music.

Sung in the original Italian with English subtitles, it promises to be a lovely (and oh so cultural) night out. Enjoy a glass of champagne and some of the country’s finest operatic talent.

PERFORMANCE DATES:

Friday 31 July – 8pm
Sunday 2 August – 2:30pm
Thursday 6 August- 8pm
Friday 7 August – 8pm (Covers)
Saturday 8 August – 8pm

THE PACIFIC OPERA YOUNG CRITICS AWARD

Why an opera review award for young people?

  • To engage young people’s awareness of opera, an art form they might not be familiar with
  • To encourage critical writing in Australia by establishing the first award of this type targeted towards young people

Register online and Pacific Opera will invite the first 25 registered people to the opening night of its upcoming production of ‘La sonnambula on Friday 31st July 2009.

Competitors will then write a review of the production (not exceeding 400 words). Reviews should be posted by email no later than 3 days after the performance.

A panel of 3 independent judges will assess the reviews based on the ability to report in an engaging and knowledgeable way, and the ability to hold a substantiated critical opinion, as well as the intrinsic literary merit of the pieces.

About Olivia Hambrett

Liv Hambrett is the Editor in Chief of Trespass. She has a weakness for the Scandinavian pop scene, doughnuts, and escapism (among many other things). She routinely pours cups of tea and forgets about them, buys international glossy magazines even though they highlight her fashion, fiscal and physical shortcomings and has lost count of how many perfumes she owns. This doesn't stop her from buying more. One day, she will write a bestselling book, turn it into an award winning screenplay, and retire to a villa (or yacht, she's not fussy) in the Mediterranean, to live out the rest of her days in sundrenched peace. If you lose her, look under a pile of books, scrap paper and empty tea cups, or check her bank statements for any recent, rash plane-ticket purchases. Don't try and call her, she's probably lost her phone.
