Film Previews

Here is a quick look at some of the film releases coming to Australian cinemas over the next two weeks:

Everybody’s Fine

Released on the 4th February, Everybody’s Fine stars Robert De Niro, Drew Barrymore, Sam Rockwell and Kate Beckinsale. A remake of the 1990 Italian film, Stanno Tutti Bene, the film follows Frank (De Niro), a widower, as he travels to visit his grown up children. While everyone insists that everything is fine, Frank’s trip reveals details about his children’s lives that they have been hiding from him.

Wolfman

Released on the 11th February, Wolfman stars Benicio del Toro, Anthony Hopkins, Emily Blunt and Hugo Weaving. Remaking the classic 1941 horror film of the same title seems to be very much at del Toro’s request, who is reportedly an avid collector of the original Wolf Man memorabilia. Set in 1880, the story follows Lawrence Talbot (del Toro) who returns to his family home after learning of his brother’s disappearance. Joining him in the search is his brother’s fiancée, Gwen (Blunt) and Scotland Yard detective, Aberline (Weaving). As rumours circulate of a blood-thirsty beast in the woods, the search takes a grizzly twist.

Valentine’s Day

Released on the 11th February, Valentine’s Day is directed by Garry Marshall of Beaches, Pretty Woman and Princess Diaries fame. The film shows a number of intertwining stories of love in L.A. over the course of a day, Valentine’s. The film has a plethora of film, TV and music stars including; Julia Roberts, Anne Hathaway, Jamie Foxx, Topher Grace, Patrick Dempsey, Queen Latifah, Taylor Lautner, Jessica Alba and Ashton Kutcher.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief

Released on the 11th February, this adventure/fantasy film is adapted from the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series by writer Rick Riordan. The children’s books focus on a group of friends who are all demigods, having one mortal and one god parent. In this first instalment, Percy (Logan Lerman), who is the son of Poseidon, and his friends must find out who stole Zeus’ (Sean Bean) lightning bolt to prevent a war between the gods. The film also stars, Uma Thurman, Pierce Brosnan, Rosario Dawson, Steve Coogan and Catherine Keener.
