When I put the contents of a Trespass beauty column into the hands of its readers, a dazzling array of questions reared their pretty heads, many of which were answered last week. However a lot of you were concerned with achieving particular looks, and what products to use in the process, so much so that I decided the best way to go about it (and perhaps the most fun) was to stage a photo shoot. You’ll have to excuse the appearance of yours truly, but we lost a blonde at the last minute which led to a preponderance of stunning brunettes and their chocolate eyes (save for one pair of hazel peepers) and an absence of their binary opposite.
The products we ended up using, we chose according to the skin tones and features of our models, and they are all readily available in stores or online. We kept it basic, with looks you can easily recreate and products that are as affordable as they are high quality. If you want to gaze at a larger version of the photos here, simply click on them. And, as always, if you have any questions about the product or the shoot, you know where to find me – olivia@nichecreativemedia.com
All that’s left to do now is enjoy … (and decide which look you’ll try out tomorrow).
The Red Lip
Achieving the perfect red lip isn’t easy – you have to get the right colour (no one likes the illusion of yellow teeth) block bleeding and smudging off at the pass and maintain the vibrant colour throughout the day/night. We used a primer on Casey, which helps prepare your lips for colour (and doubles as a very nourishing balm). It provides a smooth surface for the lipstick and helps the colour last.If you have difficulty staying between the lines with lipstick, then you’ll find the perfect product further down.
Do a coat of lipstick, blot, and then apply a second coat. A dab of gloss in the middle of the bottom lip adds lustre. Keep the rest of your make up simple – the red lip is the feature.

Subtle Day Wear
Heavy make up during the day is no one’s friend. In the harsh light of day, it’s best to keep things simple and subtle. Natural shades for the eyes and cheeks, a light base and soft lip colour or clear gloss. We kept things young and fresh with Catherine, using a green-gold shadow to bring out her eyes and a brown mascara which is soft against her fair skin.
A delicate foundation to even out skin tone and the finishing touch of a pink gel blush, and she was good to go.

Candy Eyes
Bright eyes took on a whole new meaning with Danielle’s candy eyes, as perfected by our Music Editor moonlighting as a make up artist, Alyssar. There is nothing quite like a feature eye, particularly if you figure out what shades and tones will bring out the colour of your eyes. With brown eyes, bright colours work a treat – purple, blue, pink, green. With blue and green eyes, earthier shades are your friend, although purple works a treat on green eyes as well. Alyssar kicked off Danielle’s brilliant look by lining her eyes in a darker shadow, then going artfully crazy with Napoleon’s Scream Pink. Everything else was kept to a bare minimum to allow the eyes to do their work.

Socially Conscious Make Up
A lot of you seemed concerned with using products that are environmentally friendly and don’t test on animals. The terms ‘vegan’ and ‘socially conscious’ cropped up in your questions, and for me, there is no better brand in that field, than Inika. We’ve played with Inika products before, namely vibrant shadows and summery bronzers and blushes and I can safely vouch for their quality performance time after time.
I don’t wear foundation, as I’ve talked about before, but I am willing to make an exception for a product fast gaining rave status (a la Trilogy, Principessa and Benefit). Inika’s Mineral Foundation powder is brilliant. It honestly gives whole new meaning to the word flawless, smoothing out skin tone, concealing blemishes and giving a natural looking glow all at the same time. It’s the star of the show in the simple look above.
Base: Inika Mineral Foundation Powder in Nurture RRP $54.95
Cheeks: Inika Mineral Blush in Playful RRP $37.95
Inika Illuminisor RRP $37.95
Eyes: Inika Mineral Mascara in Brown RRP $34.95
Sweet Lips
Lipstick tends to be something you steal from your mother and smear on your face as a six year old, wear in inappropriate shades as a teenager experimenting with make up, avoid during your twenties and return to in your thirties, never to part with it again. Sure, we dabble in red lips because they’re fun and bold and make us look like fifties film stars. But lipstick shouldn’t be dismissed too quickly, particularly not with the vast array of colours available and the shift from thick teacher-style paint to chic, glossier product.
If you’re bold enough to go with a feature eye, why don’t you mix it up the next weekend and try something with your lips? Turning the make up brush on herself, Alyssar primed her lips with Benefit’s Cupid’s Bow, a product used to shape and define and went with a lipstick with a glossy finish. The result? Wearable, eye popping lips.
