Introducing … Ranger Spacey

There is a lot to love about Ranger Spacey, not least the fact they made my job easier by all but writing this article for me. Beyond this, they’re talented, passionate and not at all afraid to shake up Sydney’s music scene with their own sound and sense of humour. We interviewed lead singer Jimi Linton a little while back and are delighted the band has jumped on board the Musication train. So, without further ado, here is just one brilliant Sydney act you’ll see live on October 9th at The Gaelic Theatre in Surry Hills. And if you’re heading to the bar after their set, a cheap whiskey or a stubby wouldn’t go astray.

Ranger Spacey …

Ranger Spacey are a Sydney trio whose style has been dubbed ‘Indie-Alt.Country Rock ‘n’ Roll for the Soul’.

Forming in 2007, vocalist, songwriter and guitarist Jimi Linton teamed up with bassist and high school mate Karl Napper, as well as freakishly talented drummer Paul ‘Bev’ Bevis. They sought to make music that would combine Rock, Folk and Punk – the genres that Spacey had loved as youngsters – as well as Country, the music Jimi’s Canadian Grandfather made a living from.

Now, Ranger Spacey are known for their live shows, delivering their Indie-Country Rock sound with a passion, enthusiasm and severity that can silence or incite an audience with just a well timed hook or a sharp turn of phrase.

They released their debut E.P. ‘World O Wire’ in March.

Check them out on Myspace or on their official site.

We are… Ranger Spacey

We hail from … Maroubra, but now sleep in Leichhardt.

You can liken our sound to … Indie-Alt.Country-Rock and Roll

Our influences are … vast and varied. Young, Dylan, Pearl Jam, Pavement, Pumpkins…

Our drink of choice … whatever skanky, inch short of moonshine whiskey is on sale at the local bottle-o. Or beer of any sort, mostly from a longneck bottle but if we’re feelin’ classy, a stubby…

Musication means … music with the suffix ‘ation’ attached. Therefore it means ‘the act of musicing’.

Sydney’s music scene is … ununited. For example, we tend to play a brand of music that is considered unfashionable by many in this trendy city. That said, there are always good folk who love what we do. We don’t play ‘scene’ music, we just play music. If people love it, they are part of the Ranger Spacey scene.

Get behind it because … you’ll want to tell your kids you were a pioneer of something special. Think about it – you’re going to need to tell your kids something…

She routinely pours cups of tea and forgets about them, buys international glossy magazines even though they highlight her fashion, fiscal and physical shortcomings and has lost count of how many perfumes she owns. This doesn't stop her from buying more. One day, she will write a bestselling book, turn it into an award winning screenplay, and retire to a villa (or yacht, she's not fussy) in the Mediterranean, to live out the rest of her days in sundrenched peace. If you lose her, look under a pile of books, scrap paper and empty tea cups, or check her bank statements for any recent, rash plane-ticket purchases. Don't try and call her, she's probably lost her phone.
