Introducing … Sierra Montana

A few months ago I was watching Arena (let’s not lie, it was probably Sex and the City) and a promotion for the very same show’s final season came on. The song used was so lovely, that as soon as the little spinning disc appeared in the bottom left hand corner with the band and song title, I was on Google, feverishly searching.

The band was Sierra Montana, the song Wrap my Arms.

It has been a big year for these boys from the Shire. Hot on the heels of the massive response to the Sex and the City promotion, yet another of their songs was picked up by Arena, this time for a One Tree Hill promotion, and in July they shot their first music video for the soaring and eminently catchy, My Confession.

When it came to choosing bands for the Musication line up, these guys were an obvious choice, positioned as they are, as one of Sydney’s most exciting (and dare I say easy on the eye) bands. Come down and catch them onstage and then at the bar on October 9th at the Gaelic Theatre – and in case you’re wondering (and I know you are) the way to their hearts is quite simply via a good old fashioned beer.

Sierra Montana …

We are… Sam Fraser – Vocals

David Cavanagh – Drums

Matt Seakins – Bass

Tom Weekley – Guitar/Vocals

Richie Newman – Guitar/Keyboards

We hail from … The Sutherland Shire in the south of Sydney.

You can liken our sound to … The Fray, One Republic but we always have trouble with this question! We feel we have a very independent style!

Our influences are … very varied, each member of the band has separate influences, but these include people such as Taking Back Sunday, Fall Out Boy, Red Hot Chili Peppers, NoFx and Blondie.

Our drink of choice … none of the band drink alcohol because of a serious focus on our music career.  HAHAHA we love a beer or three.

Musication means … a lot to us as an opportunity for us to showcase our music among other talented unsigned bands. Opportunities like this are rare and the strength behind the local music scene is fading. It’s important that fans come out to see performances like this regularly.

Sydney’s music scene is … okay but other music scenes around the country and the world are much, much stronger. Participation is definitely low and many popular indie acts struggle to fill venues.

Get behind it because … it means a lot to us and all other bands without the label support. We need the locals to come and fill out shows!

She routinely pours cups of tea and forgets about them, buys international glossy magazines even though they highlight her fashion, fiscal and physical shortcomings and has lost count of how many perfumes she owns. This doesn't stop her from buying more. One day, she will write a bestselling book, turn it into an award winning screenplay, and retire to a villa (or yacht, she's not fussy) in the Mediterranean, to live out the rest of her days in sundrenched peace. If you lose her, look under a pile of books, scrap paper and empty tea cups, or check her bank statements for any recent, rash plane-ticket purchases. Don't try and call her, she's probably lost her phone.
