Letter From The Editors

Welcome to our very first ‘Theme Week’, and the theme this week is … Love.

You could say that we are honouring the Hallmark holiday, Valentine’s Day, and maybe we are (a little), but in actuality, we are simply honouring love. Sweet huh? We’re sweet people. Love invades our everyday, whether we acknowledge its presence or not. And though people may feel inclined to speak of love with a side order of rainbows and butterflies and a mushy soundtrack, love has many faces, and can be as much a driving force as it is a thing that holds us back, as much a thing that we are proud of as it is a guilty pleasure, an obsession, a passion.

Love is also the name in which so many people do so many good things – and as much as we’d like to acknowledge the red-roses-and-teddy-bears holiday, we’d most like to shout out to all the people who are doing good everyday in the name of the L word. We all know them. They’re our friends and our family. They’re research scientists who are figuring out sustainable ways to fish; young adults who go back to school to help adolescents with low self esteem; people who create works of great beauty – on canvas, in the recording studio, on paper, in gardens, for the pleasure of others; those who constantly aspire to coexist as harmlessly as possible with our environment; those who say what no one else needs to hear because it needs to be said. To all of you, we send our love. (Hey, it’s Love Week, so we’re allowed to get a little sentimental.)

With as little guideline as possible, we encouraged our contributors to come up with their own personal interpretation of love. As such, we have for you an interesting and varied mix of content that’ll make you laugh, and possibly tug a little at your heartstrings. More than anything, it will be content you can all relate to, that we can promise.

Our editor-in-chief, Liv Hambrett, writes about her passion for perfume and its ability to evoke memories and the sense of possibility simultaneously. Foz Meadows turns her regular column, Speaking to Geeks to ‘Romancing the Geek’, sharing with us her favourite couples in geekdom. And in case you’re off to a romantic date this Valentine’s, Romy Grbic, our beauty editor, has selected some beauty products to get you in the mood.

We also have, ‘I Know It’s Wrong, But I Still Love…’ – a (hilarious) collaborative piece organised by our film editor, Beth Wilson, in which she gets the Trespass team as well as some fantastic guest writers to relinquish their street-cred, and fess-up to their darkest filmic secrets. Feel free to spill your beans in our film section’s confessional booth. There’s no need to be shy, whoever chose ‘The Little Mermaid’ and Britney Spears’ ‘Crossroads’ will be doing Hail Marys all year.

Plus, all the way from Thailand by way of New York City, our pastry chef, Jelly Jan, will make her video return to Trespass this week.

On top of all that, we also have some giveaways. The Cupcake Wrapper Co. have launched their new Valentine’s Day inspired designs, which they have kindly offered to you, our dear Trespass readers. Furthermore, look out for the chance to win double passes to the film, Fish Tank, to be announced later in the week.

And there you have it – a sneak peak into our content for the week, so keep your eyes peeled.

As of now, Theme Weeks will be a regular occurrence at Trespass Magazine, and every month or so, a different theme will decide the content of that week. We are, as always, open to reader suggestions, so drop us a line. We’re all ears for you people 24/7.

We hope you enjoy Love Week – we’ve had a blast putting it together – and we can’t wait to hear your thoughts and maybe feel a little bit of your love.

Love Lin and Liv xxx
