Letter From the Editors; Bright Young Things

Bright Young Things

The catalyst and true heart of Trespass Magazine’s early beginnings, was a desire to provide a platform for emerging writers to strut their stuff; it’s something we take enormous pride in, and what drives the magazine. So, it is of no surprise that one of our theme weeks should be duly named, Bright Young Things.

This week, it is all about aspiring artists, writers, filmmakers, and our other fellow ‘emergers’ making their debut in industries of media, music, business, food and art. Everyone has to start somewhere – actress Rosario Dawson was famously discovered by Larry Clark whilst sitting on a stoop in New York. Late fashion designer, Alexander McQueen had his first big break when renowned stylist, Isabella Blow, purchased his entire graduate collection for an alleged ₤5,000. In order to be taken seriously, writer Mary Anne Evans took on a male pseudonym, George Eliot, to become one of the most famous writers of the Victorian era. Then who can forget bromance pioneers, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, and the ‘little’ film they wrote (and starred in) called Good Will Hunting? The very film that catapulted them into Oscar winners.

This week, we hope to discover some new talents and explore each of our participants’ drive, which have pushed them to take the leap and follow their passions.

First off, we introduce the third part of So You Want To Be A Writer? series where we got the chance to chat to fellow Trespassers, Antonia Hayes and Marc Vincenz. This series was inspired by our media partnership with Play Now Act Now, who have been a wonderful source for discovering new writers, designers and filmmakers.

As always, our film crew, never to disappoint, bring us a collaborative piece looking at the Best Films From First Time Directors. Victoria Hughes, who is very excited about a Sydney photographer, will share her enthusiasm for her work, and on that note, Lyrian Fleming will also be writing about a talented photographer. For the Food section, Lin Tan will chat to a brilliant pastry chef who makes the most wonderful peanut butter cookies (amongst other things).

Lastly, and with great excitement, we’ll also be announcing our new columnists, or Regulars, as we like to call them over here – so do keep your eye on the ball and ear to the streets.

And just a final and important note to say thank you to you, our dear readers for your continued support. We Bright Young Things are ever so grateful for it, and hope you enjoy yet another Theme Week by Trespass Magazine.

Love, Liv & Lin
