Product Review: Bourjois 2 in 1 Coup de Theatre Mascara

With the territory of fair eyelashes, comes the perpetual look of baldness, where one resembles an egg if one eschews mascara for the day and/or night.  And so, along with the egg-look, comes a large collection of mascaras, several of which make me cry and most of which just sit there until I throw them away in a fit of Spring Cleaning.

Finding the perfect mascara is akin to finding a soul mate (as finding the perfect product to suit a specific need often is). Colour, texture, staying power, washing-off power -some won’t budge for days and you end up looking like Peaches Geldof after a night on the town – all of these things need to be considered when tracking down a suitable coat for your lashes. But once you find that coat, hold it close and never let it go. The eyes are, after all, the windows to the soul – thus, a little decoration never goes astray.

Of course, we tend to get fixated on the staple blacks and browns and forget a whole other world exists in the world of mascaras – colour. Navy mascara is a softer look for daywear, electric blue is a statement for night. Violet makes blue and green eyes sparkle, plum works the same way for brown.

A new mascara hitting the shelves this month is Bourjois 2 in 1 Coup de Theatre Mascara. Designed to lengthen the lashes and give a false lash result, using micro nylon fibres, it comes in five shades – black, brown, green, blue and purple.

I popped on a coat of the purple (Violet Sensationelle) and whilst I didn’t exactly look like the model wearing it in the ad, I did love the colour. It’s not in-your-face-electric, but it’s just purple enough to warrant people staring at your face wondering what it is you’ve done differently today to make your eyes so sparkly.

Mix it up this Autumn and introduce some colour into your mascara wardrobe. In the immortal words of Hilary Duff, which should always be remembered when one is venturing out of one’s comfort zone, why not?

About Olivia Hambrett

Liv Hambrett is the Editor in Chief of Trespass. She has a weakness for the Scandinavian pop scene, doughnuts, and escapism (among many other things). She routinely pours cups of tea and forgets about them, buys international glossy magazines even though they highlight her fashion, fiscal and physical shortcomings and has lost count of how many perfumes she owns. This doesn't stop her from buying more. One day, she will write a bestselling book, turn it into an award winning screenplay, and retire to a villa (or yacht, she's not fussy) in the Mediterranean, to live out the rest of her days in sundrenched peace. If you lose her, look under a pile of books, scrap paper and empty tea cups, or check her bank statements for any recent, rash plane-ticket purchases. Don't try and call her, she's probably lost her phone.
