What is Musication?

This year we’ve all but offered our firstborns to various international acts who have made us feel very special by playing shows, populating our social pages and proclaiming their deep love for all things Australian. We even gave Pink her own radio station and it’s entirely possible it was her seemingly never-ending tour that saved Australia from recession, not Kevin’s love of stimulus.

And whilst it’s all well and good that Britney is finally bringing her Circus tour to our shores, ten years after she famously said to a camera,  ‘I love Australia’ and then to someone off camera, ‘where is Australia’, what about our own music scene?

A little while ago, I was talking with our Music Editor and founder of For The Record Management, Alyssar (aka Dee), who expressed a shared desire to develop a project that spotlighted local bands. We envisioned a platform for acts to not only share their music with others, but also their fan-base and social networks with each other.

And so, Musication was born – one night only at one of Sydney’s premier live music venues, five incredible local bands and an audience that combines their fan-bases and Trespass readers. A chance for music lovers to walk away with, at the very least, a Myspace to frequent, or an EP to play on repeat.

Surprise Opening Act

Trespass Magazine was a logical media partner, given our focus on unearthing Gen Y talent and our love for the local music scene, enabled as it is by our enthusiastic Music Ed. And so, starting next Monday, we will be doing a featured weekly interview with each of the five acts, so you can get up close and personal (with your computer screen) before you see them rock your little socks off on October 9th.

We need to get more excited about what we’re producing – seriously good music in our own backyard that needs your love and support to grow. And that, my friends, is what Musication is all about.

About Olivia Hambrett

Liv Hambrett is the Editor in Chief of Trespass. She has a weakness for the Scandinavian pop scene, doughnuts, and escapism (among many other things). She routinely pours cups of tea and forgets about them, buys international glossy magazines even though they highlight her fashion, fiscal and physical shortcomings and has lost count of how many perfumes she owns. This doesn't stop her from buying more. One day, she will write a bestselling book, turn it into an award winning screenplay, and retire to a villa (or yacht, she's not fussy) in the Mediterranean, to live out the rest of her days in sundrenched peace. If you lose her, look under a pile of books, scrap paper and empty tea cups, or check her bank statements for any recent, rash plane-ticket purchases. Don't try and call her, she's probably lost her phone.
