I too am an aspiring journalist who has already completed an undergrad media degree and am now half way through a masters course in journalism. I'm yet to see a paid piece of my freelance writing published but persist with the non-paid variety in the hopes that it will all pay off - one day. My, I could probably hire myself full-time with all the unpaid opportunities out there but that won't cover the rent bill at the end of the month. I've done countless internships and have a portfolio bursting at the seams. And while I realise this is a competitive industry, I feel I am too far into it to turn back now. What else will I do? How would I be able to justify paying ridiculously expensive post-grad uni fees if not to do what I intended when filling out that application form? So I welcome the inspiration in spades. It's a pity that such a career choice can't come as leisurely as the Carrie Bradshaw's and Lois Lane's of this world. Aside from that, this is one of the more awesome rants I have seen on the poo poo industry that is 'The Media' I can't find a steady job in it to save myself. Try getting experience when every job requires 3 or more years of the stuff....
